Saint Petersburg
The city was founded in 1703 by Peter the Great in order to safeguard the inlet to the river Neva and territories, reconquered in the course of the Northern War between Russia and Sweden at the beginning of the 18th century. Peter I…..conceived…..the city as a gateway to the Baltic sea, which connects Russia to the European world. At the moment Saint Petersburg is one of the most visited tourist centers of the world because of its cultural and historical importance. The architectural appearance of Saint Petersburg always conveyed the idea of the imperial power of Russia. It is reflected in luxurious and sumptuous palaces and temples, erected by famous architects like Rastrelli, Voronihin, Rossi and Kvasov. Numerous islands, rivers and tortuous canals give the city an exceptional originality and particular fascination. Small bridges, domes of temples and their mosaics, wonderful fronts of palaces attract all eyes of Saint Petersburg guests. In the period from June till July it is particular charming in Saint Petersburg. Nights at this time are light and are called “white nights” - Beliye Notchi. It occurs because of the high latitude. This phenomenon when dawn meets sunset – is an unforgettable spectacle. Streets and avenues of the city become crowded. It is a preferable time for loving couples, who can seclude themselves from the others.
  Peterhof
Founded at the beginning of the 18th century by tsar Peter the Great not far from the new Russian capital (Saint Petersburg), Peterhof was destined to be the most splendid royal summer residence. Its wonderful parks, 176 fountains, majestic palaces, gilded statues of ancient gods and heroes, its remarkable collections of sculpture and painting made Peterhof the real capital of art, the only one of its kind. After 1917 the architectural ensemble of Peterhof was taken under the state protection and transformed into the world museum of architecture and art. At present Peterhof has become the most attractive center for numerous Russian and foreign visitors.
  Mariinsky Theatre
Saint Petersburg is the very place, where the Russian musical theatre was born. Already in the 18th century opera and ballet…were given at the tsar`s court. Mariinski is one of the oldest Russian theatres. It was constructed in 1860 after the project of the architect A. Kvasov and was named in honor of the empress Maria Alexandrovna, wife of the tsar Alexander II. Its history is rich in remarkable events, which are described in enormous archives of the theatre. The ancient documents, libretto of spectacles, sketches, photos are carefully conserved and used for the creation of modern performances. Repertory of the theatre includes masterpieces of the “gold fund” of classic operas and ballets. Last year the theatre realized joint performances with the greatest operas....of the world: Opera Bastille, La Scala,....Tel-Aviv, Saint Francisco.
 Hermitage Museum
The Winter Palace – the central residence of Russian tsars, which was constructed in 1754-1762 after the design of F.B. Rastrelli - plays the principal role in the architectural ensemble of the Palace Square. The Winter Palace was the official royal residence in Saint Petersburg until 1764 when Empress Catherine II founded the Hermitage Museum that occupied part of the rooms. Later more housing was erected to accommodate the growing collection: The Small Hermitage, The Grand (Old) Hermitage, The Hermitage Theatre, and the New Hermitage, which is easily recognized by the Atlases supporting the porch. The central green-and-white baroque building (Winter Palace) is really very impressive. It contains 1,786 doors, 1,945 windows and 1,057 halls and rooms, most of which are open to the public. The Hermitage collections count more than 3 million masterpieces of art, demonstrating the development of the world culture and art from the stone age till the 20th century. The visitors can admire here the most famous works of Leonardo da Vinci (“Madonna Litta” y “Madonna Benua”), Raphael, Michelangelo, Titian, Rembrandt. Here are also widely represented French, Dutch, Spanish and Russian arts.
